The East Cape Lighthouse is one of the most fascinating places I've ever seen in New Zealand. Te Araroa (174 km from Gisborne, 160 km from Opotiki) Near the midpoint of the driving time, Te Araroa is home to another great coffee shop, the Cape Manuka Café. We climbed the 700 or so steps to the lighthouse a few years back, it's worth the walk.
